The main question for www.sleepdisordersthailand.com is:
“Is Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kanit Muntarbhorn (รศ.นพ. คณิต มันตาภรณ์) of Thailand
really an ASEAN/AEC pioneer in Sleep Disorders’ Research, Sleep Medicine
and Surgery i.e. a part of ASEAN Medical History?”
Therefore, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kanit Muntarbhorn (รศ.นพ. คณิต มันตาภรณ์) [a
member of ASDA in 1989] of Thailand is requesting information re:
research publications by ASEAN or AEC physicians before 1990 AD on the
following keywords: apnea, apnoea, ASEAN, bi-level PAP, CPAP, sleep
disorders, sleep apnea, sleep apnoea, LAUP, pharyngoplasty, palatoplasty,

treatment & uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP).

Regarding article on UPPP in Laryngoscope 2007;117(3):503-6 by Goh,
Mark and Fee [from the internet information i.e. YH Goh (MBBS, NUS
Singapore - 1990), I Mark (MBBS, NUS, Singapore - 1994)], I am not
convinced that all 49 UPPP patients, who had undergone UPPP: July 1980-
July 1983, were either Singaporean patients or patients in Singapore but
could have been UPPP patients of Prof. W.E. Fee Jr. (Stanford). I have a
need to find out about publications on palatal surgery or UPPP for snoring
and/or OSA in Singapore or in other ASEAN countries before 1990 to
counter my claim that the earliest UPPP in ASEAN had occurred in
Thailand (UPPP in 1987 and reported in 1988). Also, I feel there is an
imbalance among physicians’ opinions on UPPP.
